"Polo" is a song by Kim Petras, serving as the first and lead single[1] on Detour.
Background[]
The song and it's lyrics were teased on her tumblr page via gifs, images and hashtags.[2] Then on BunheadHQ it was suggested to guess the title through a hangman game.
The title was confirmed on May 31st.[3] While her website was officially updated, a presave link to the song was put on to new music, indicating Polo would soon be released.
It was first performed at WeHo Pride 2025, along with another of the album's tracks, Freak It.
On June 18th, it was revealed that the song will come out on June 27th[4]. Kim Petras shared a studio snippet of the song to tease it. On June 19th, in a tweet[5], Kim Petras shared the production credits of the song, revealing she is one of the producers. Polo is so the first release song with Kim as an official producer.
She stated to Full Access Music about the song,
"Polo was the first song that kinda reset all of the music I was working on. It makes me feel cute and like a bitch! When we wrote it, I had three broken toes and Margo XS and I were just playing SSX 3 and Silent Hill and it kinda just magically came to us and was everything!"
She also said this on her Instagram,
"This is the first chapter, because I want it to be. This song opened a path I’ve been dying to go down. This is the beginning of the end, everything before was just pretend."
